Flashback Friday...Hey, there George.

The story has been told that Albert and Hattie Vandercar had picked out the name Ray for a boy.
However that baby boy decided to make his entrance into the world on George Washington's Birthday and they decided to name him George.

So, on February 22, 1895...
George Ray Vandercar
was born.

117 years later, on February 22, 2012, George's Great Great Grand daughter,
Aelah Mae Vandercar,
was born!

So, little Aelah, in the future...when your crazy Aunt Nancy sees you and bursts into singing "Hey there, Georgie Girl,"...bear with me, I know your name is Aelah...it just makes me happy to look
backward,
forward and
up
and see a whole lot of branches...
sharing the same tree and the same roots.

Congratulations, Joshua & Adrienne!

And welcome to the world, Baby Aelah!

If I had only known.....

It was a Saturday nite.
She said she felt better.
"Pretty good."
"I'm alright."
"Don't worry about me."
Edith had been to visit and brought her a rose.
"So, see I have flowers."
I think there was some talk about missing the Super Bowl party.
There was talk of me feeling better 'cause work was getting better.
She was glad, cause she "knew you haven't been happy there for a long time."
She was glad I called, but was going to go because her arm was still swollen and it was hard to hold the phone up to her ear, she didn't want to bother the nurse or ask for help.
Okay.
We said our "Love yous" and goodbyes.

If I would have known it would be the last time I heard her voice,
I would have never hung up that phone.

If I had only Known

If I had only known
It was the last walk in the rain
I'd keep you out for hours in the storm
I would hold your hand
Like a life line to my heart
Underneath the thunder we'd be warm
If I had only known
It was our last walk in the rain

If I had only known
I'd never hear your voice again
I'd memorize each thing you ever said
And on those lonely nights
I could think of them once more
Keep your words alive inside my head
If I had only known
I'd never hear your voice again

You were the treasure in my hand
You were the one who always stood beside me
So unaware I foolishly believed
That you would always be there
But then there came a day
And I turned my head and you slipped away

If I had only known
It was my last night by your side
I'd pray a miracle would stop the dawn
And when you'd smile at me
I would look into your eyes
And make sure you know my love
For you goes on and on
If I had only known
If I had only known
The love I would've shown
If I had only known

Happy Birthday Cori!

Flashback Friday...The African American Experience

Fifteen years ago....

I went to O'hare to pick up a South African, named Heidi.

She spent seven months on Main Street before I had to take her back to that plane.
My life has never been the same.
I am lucky to know such an amazing person exists.
