The older cars had as much space between the grille and the radiator as some new cars have trunk space. The beverage of choice sat in front of the radiator between it and the grill. It was a great place to chill pop or whatever on the way to the y&w drive-in during the cooler months of the year. Besides cops would always ask to look in the trunk but never under the hood. Take a look at Jerrys Wildcat sometime and you will see what Mike and I are talking about.

Nancy,
One better than that is putting a 6 or 8 pack of 16oz bottles behind the grill of a car then drive a few miles to chill them.
Tom & I are both thinking alike on that one. I definately remember that trick. To bad it doesn't work so well on the newer cars.
ok...
i'm confused.
wouldn't putting them behind the grill (radiator ?)
heat them?
and make them so fizzy you couldn't open them?
is this one of Tom's jokes? or riddles?
were you both high when you did this (sandy's new phrase (borrowed from baldwin to letterman)?
"splain' it to me lucy."
